WittKieffer is proud to announce a search we have launched with Southwest Solutions in Detroit to locate a mission-oriented leader to serve as their new President and CEO. Southwest Solutions has played a crucial role serving families and providing a range of life-changing services to individuals in Detroit for fifty years and this new executive has the opportunity to change the trajectory of thousands of lives through their interconnected suite of programs and services. Southwest Solutions was founded in 1970 by Monsignor Clement Kerna a legendary pastor of Most Holy Trinity in southwest Detroit, who was known as the “conscience of Detroit” because of his passionate commitment to helping the poor and disenfranchised. Today the organization has grown to become one of Detroit's most impactful nonprofits, serving a diverse population of more than 10,000 yearly, with a dedicated staff of 300 and a budget of over $32M.
The mission of Southwest Solution is: to enhance the quality of life, success and self-sufficiency of individuals and families in Detroit. Starting as an agency providing community mental health services, Southwest Solutions has grown tremendously and today serves the community in a holistic manner through additional programs in adult literacy, services for the homeless and veterans, financial literacy and home-buyer counseling, job training, urban and minority entrepreneur programs, and neighborhood and community development, including development and operation of affordable housing.
Southwest Solutions is interested in entertaining a broad range of candidate profiles serving diverse communities, especially those that bring leadership experience in leading complex, multi-site, mission and values based national nonprofits. Nonprofit leadership focused on the social determinants of health is strongly preferred, especially those that serve economically disadvantaged, culturally diverse communities. Respect and an affiliation for those being served is paramount. Experience leading human service organizations focused on mental health and wellness, affordable housing, homelessness prevention, addiction services, economic development or job training/financial opportunity development are all areas of interest. The successful candidate will have a track record creating an organizational culture of collaboration/partnerships with the community, innovation and strategic growth. Sound fiscal leadership and the ability to connect innovative programs with sustainable revenue streams is essential. The CEO will demonstrate servant leadership and will have an authentic passion for the mission and vision of Southwest Solutions, while being highly visible both internally and externally.
