Executive Director, CARES Northwest This Executive Director role provides leadership to CARES Northwest. Child Abuse Response and Evaluation Services (CARES) Northwest is a collaborative, community-based medical program. CARES Northwest’s mission is to stop child abuse and neglect through multidisciplinary prevention, medical evaluation, and ongoing treatment in partnership with our community.
We provide a safe, child-friendly environment for the assessment of children for whom there are concerns of physical or sexual abuse, neglect and exposure to domestic violence. Physical examinations and interviews are conducted in a comfortable environment to help children feel safe. Founded in 1987, the program is a collaborative effort among four of the region’s leading health systems — Kaiser Permanente, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Providence Children’s Health, and Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. CARES Northwest was the first program in Oregon to pair physicians and nurse practitioners with child interviewers in a medical setting to provide child abuse evaluations.

The Executive Director of CARES works to integrate services in order to maximize efficiency and quality. Accountable for strategic planning, operations, marketing, quality improvement and financial performance. Provides leadership to a team of physicians and other medical providers, manager, and staff to develop and achieve program objectives. Serves as staff to CARES Northwest Governing Board. Actively seeks funding, in collaboration with the Legacy Foundation team as appropriate, through appropriate advocacy, grant writing, application to county/state resources and building relationships with private donors to ensure financial viability of program. Arranges and participates in local and national forums to maintain visibility of the program. Develops and maintains linkages with community agencies to coordinate child abuse prevention, medical evaluation, and treatment efforts. As approved, works collaboratively with designated medical leader, or other directors and senior management, to develop and further the vision/strategies of Legacy’s Children's Services and Legacy Health overall.

Education: Master’s degree required.
Experience: Minimum eight years progressively responsible professional and/or managerial experience within a health care environment. Demonstrated successful results in managing children’s services programs. Experience working in successful partnership with physicians.
Skills: Demonstrated ability in managing people in setting goals; giving appropriate support; and evaluating, directing, and holding employees accountable while maintaining high morale and productivity. Ability to communicate ideas, plans and directions effectively both verbally and in writing and to facilitate and present in front of large groups. Thorough understanding of current developments and trends in child maltreatment, healthcare management and areas of defined accountability. Knowledge of health care issues, demographics, financing and policy changes. Leadership ability to work across systems to accomplish the objectives of the organization. Organizational skills both to function independently and to work closely with other professionals using a team approach. Judgment skills to make appropriate decisions. Ability to handle multiple demands and to respond rapidly to changing priorities.
