The pain service provides consultation and treatment services for the management of acute, chronic, cancer and non-cancer pain. The pain physician/physiatrist is a board eligible/board certified specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation or internal medicine. Applicants should have expertise in the evaluation and treatment of a wide range of routine and complex musculoskeletal and neurologic disorders. The pain physician/physiatrist will provide care for patients in a variety of settings including outpatient Ambulatory Care in Danville and CBOCs. Experience in managing patients at the acute and sub-acute levels is required. S/he will manage patients in the outpatient Ambulatory Clinic and provide consultative services, manage patients requiring palliative care, postoperative pain or conditions in which pain is a primary problem such as neuropathic pains or headaches. The position also includes providing support to consultations. Examinations and evaluation may be conducted for the purpose of initial and subsequent follow up of pain management patients, performance of history and physical examination, behavioral modification and feedback techniques, Chemical neuromuscular denervation (e.g., Botox injection), diagnosis and treatment of chronic and cancer related pain, epidural and intrathecal medication management, fluoroscopically guided facet blocks, injection of joint and bursa, including sacroiliac, hip, knee, and shoulder joint injections, management of chronic headache, modality therapy and physical therapy, recognition and management of therapies, side effects, and complications of pharmacologic agents used in the management of pain, rehabilitative and restorative therapy, stress management and relation techniques, spinal injections, including epidural injections and trigger point injection. The pain physician needs to be an active member of medical staff meetings and peer review. The pain physician conduct should be professional and ethical, pain physician will demonstrate sound communication skills with patients, staff, and colleagues.
