The Nurse Manager-Facility Telehealth Coordinator(FTC) position is located within the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Alexandria VA Health Care System (AVAHCS). The position is assigned responsibility for providing comprehensive, high quality, cost effective healthcare services to patients who are rendered care at the AVAHCS. With administrative oversight by the Deputy Chief of Staff, the Facility Telehealth Coordinator/Nurse Manager (FTC) provides comprehensive, patient centered health care services. In the course of these duties, using the nursing process, the RN assesses, evaluates, plans, coordinates and provides treatment as indicated and agreed upon. The RN communicates effectively with other healthcare members as well as other interdisciplinary team members throughout the hospital in order to ensure continuity of care for patients receiving care within the VA. The Facility Telehealth Coordinator/Nurse Manager manages care across the health care continuum. He/she works closely with primary care provider(s) and other health care professionals and team members, other clinics, internal services and community agencies. The incumbent holds a facility level position, reporting to the Deputy Chief of Staff, with coordination and input from the VISN Telehealth Manager. The incumbent is responsible for overall planning, coordination, implementation, management, and evaluation of clinical applications of telehealth within the facility organization, with particular emphasis on improving access to Veterans identified as "rural" and "highly rural". The incumbent works closely with network and facility leaders and staff to incorporate new concepts and programs into extant systems, and provides education and training to all facility staff impacted by program, role, or technology changes. The success of the position relies heavily on the technical properties required for purchasing, and training telehealth staff and providers for successful and beneficial use of technology. Matrix lines of authority ensure that VISN 16 and VHA goals and strategic directions are fully supported by telehealth programming through collaborative efforts with facility and network leaders. The incumbent is knowledgeable of overall facility and network goals, missions and priorities to ensure that the telehealth programming does not impact adversely upon other other programs or resources. He/she is knowledgeable of funding sources and methodologies including Office of Rural Health, the area Rural Health Resource Center, VERA, third party collections, sharing agreement revenues, contracts and enhanced use revenue. He/she has awareness of management discussions, decisions, and policy making concerning Telehealth, Home Telehealth and rural health; consults and advises the Associate Director of Patient Care Services, Deputy Chief of Staff, Facility Director, and Chief Information Officer and Service Chiefs on all relating matters. The incumbent integrates telehealth program planning within facility operations as a whole to ensure goals and priorities are complementary and in congruence with the overall VISN telehealth programs. Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care. All duties dictated by patient care.
