This position will report directly to the Director of Clinical Nutrition and is responsible for the coordination, performance, clinical oversight, and effectiveness of the Adult Clinical Nutrition Program for Long Beach Medical Center. This includes both inpatient and outpatient medical nutrition therapy programs. The Manager will evaluate, develop, and implement specific nutrition projects and programs to ensure appropriate integration of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) in the medical center. The Manager is also responsible for collaborating with members of the health care team to provide patients MNT using current, scientific literature and best practices.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides leadership, expertise and management in the Adult Clinical Nutrition department. Leads the daily operations for the safe and effective provision of medical nutrition therapy in both inpatient and outpatient clinical nutrition care.
Evaluates, develops, and implements specific nutrition projects and programs to ensure appropriate integration of MNT in the medical center. Coordinates the schedule and provision of nutrition care in all assigned areas.
Participates in the employee and intern selection process. Actively assesses, evaluates and maintains staff professional development and competencies outlined. Monitors staff productivity, assists in determining staffing needs and leads staff performance evaluations.
Assists the Clinical Nutrition Director in determining appropriateness and cost effectiveness of services utilized (Human and Material Resources) associated with the adult clinical nutrition program. Completes and maintains records as defined by the Clinical Nutrition Director for Performance Improvement, labor productivity, and revenue.
Leads or assists with department meetings, huddles, and in-services as assigned. Develops training modules, in-services, and/or department orientation for staff or interns as assigned.
Utilizes a Lean mindset, methods and management system to improve quality and operational efficiency. Supervises, leads and/or participates in program specific Performance Improvement and/or LEAN projects.
Utilizing the Nutrition Care Process, the Manager provides back-up to the adult clinical nutrition dietitians, by performing nutrition assessments, diagnosing nutrition-related problems, determining and implementing appropriate interventions, and monitoring & evaluating the outcome of interventions. The Manager will provide nutrition education to patients, caregivers, and family members, as needed.
