This position develops, directs and manages the Core Laboratory to effectively meet departmental and institutional objectives, providing administrative and technical skills necessary to operate a major patient service division.
Essential Job Functions:
Hires, trains and conducts departmental orientation and performance evaluations for new staff members. Analyzes and directs the workflow for the department. Supervises daily operations and plans work schedules and daily work assignments to maintain personnel coverage and laboratory efficiency. Provides for the education, development and mentoring of staff. Develops and implements departmental goals and objectives and ensures all goals and objectives are met timely and effectively.
Responsible for the fiscal management of the department to include labor resources, reagents/consumables, capital equipment, and contribution margin expectations. Prepares and/or participates in the development of the department budget in conjunction with established goals and objectives and ensures budgetary goals are met on an annual basis.
Accountable for the laboratories maintaining accreditation with College of American Pathologists (CAP), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and licensing for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) for patient care and nursing. Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Performs process management by leading and participating in task forces and councils. Conducts performance improvement initiatives and participates in the development, revision, and implementation of processes, procedures, matrix and programs to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness and ensure compliance with regulatory accreditation standards. Responsible for Quality Metrics to improve the value of patient care.
Bachelor's degree with five (5) years related experience. Must have previous leadership experience. Must fulfill overall qualifications as a General Supervisor under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA). Certification from either the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) or equivalent certification.
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or an appropriately related field, from a regionally accredited college/university.
MT/MLS certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology ASCP.
Master’s in laboratory field or Business preferred
Five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in the U.S., Canada or a CAP/The Joint Commission accredited laboratory. This experience must be acquired post baccalaureate degree and be under the supervision of a pathologist certified by the American Board of Pathology or an appropriately board certified medical scientist.
Leadership skills essential to lead and work in an effective and collaborative team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a diverse and multi-functional team.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
