Advanced Practice Professional (APP) is responsible for leading and overseeing programs and initiatives related to utilization, quality, productivity, and continuing education of APP practice at Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). Collaborates with Clinical Administration, Physician Leadership, and Nursing Leadership to drive improvement in the APP delivery of care. Develops and establishes policies and procedures related to the APP practice and monitors policy communication and compliance. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to BSWH APP practice, which may include credentialing, performance standards, clinical rotations, utilization, and regulatory compliance. May perform direct patient care for small portion of time (typically not to exceed 20%) with activities that are clinical in nature such as making rounds, assessing patients, and supervising APP staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
1.Oversees Advanced Practice Professional (APP) utilization, credentialing standards, policies, procedures, quality assurance, continuing education, and other strategic programs.
2.Partners closely with Physicians, Nursing, Centralized Verification Services, Human Resources, Legal, Academic Operations, and others on items related to APPs, such as credentialing, performance management, onboarding, recruitment, and clinical rotations.
3.Leads APP Council meetings and acts as chairman for APP Council for the Central Texas Division. Serves as an ex officio member and functions as a primary resource regarding APP utilization and practice.
4.Participates in Division monthly CMO / CNO meetings.
5.Attends Clinic Physician Board of Directors meetings as a non-voting ex officio member. Participates on other boards and committee meetings as needed.
6.Drives initiatives to modernize APP practice in support of population health care models of care supported BSWH.
7.Maintains expertise and builds BSWH competence regarding regulations from governing bodies, driving best practice processes throughout the system and compliance in all regulatory areas including Medical Board and Board of Nursing regulations for practice.
8.Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with physicians, nursing, allied health, inter-professional colleagues, and national organizations, to gather and exchange information and determine innovative ways to develop and ensure achievement of strategic goals and objectives.
9.Advises System Medical Staff Office on credentialing and clinical privileging processes, and reviews maintenance of APP and Physician collaboration and supervision agreements.
10.Participates in departmental strategic planning and advises on APP related issues as needed.
11.Monitors coding, billing, and documentation processes related to APPs to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance. Oversees and manages APP Admins across the Central Texas Division.
12.Supports system efforts in obtaining Magnate status; and monitors and ensures constant preparedness for regulatory surveys and audits.
13.Practices collaboratively under the delegation of a supervising physician, including obtaining medical and personal histories, performing physical exams, educating patients and families, and prioritizing and assessing patients.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
1.Master's degree required.
2.Physician Assistance Program (PA), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
3.7+ years of APP experience, as a PA, CRNA, or APRN.
4.3+ years of experience in a leadership role.
5.Expert knowledge of state and national laws and legislation pertaining to medical board and nursing board governance of APPs.
6.Expert knowledge of Joint Commission mandates regarding APP practice in both hospitals and clinics.
7.Expert in national APP issues; preferably active in national and state professional organizations.
8.Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a large, matrixed organization.
9.A self-directed leader with strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and able to guide, direct, mentor, train, and collaborate in a team environment.
10.Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Professional in the state of Texas.
11.Basic Cardiac Life Support.
