You Will Be Responsible For:
Develops and manages the Clinical Documentation functions/activities at each of the currently 9 hospitals in West Florida Division.
Based upon strategic corporate initiatives and hospital goals develop Divisional Clinical Documentation work plan annually and report completed activities to CMOs, CNOs, CFOs and Quality leaders at each hospital.
Manages and oversees the daily operational Clinical Documentation hospital-based activities, data collection, analysis and reports. Participates on committees and presents the results of studies, trends, and activities as necessary to demonstrate improvement in clinical documentation processes.
Monitor and continuously manage productivity while reviewing and recommending staffing changes of Clinical Documentation teams at each hospital, based on the workload.
Annually review the Divisional Clinical Documentation program to ensure compliance to state and regulatory guidelines.
Identify Clinical Documentation improvement issues and foster excellent communication with physicians, nurses, coding and other members of the health care team to be able to work independently to resolve such issues. Develop and present employee productivity reports of Clinical Documentation staff to the Division CNO monthly.
Identify staff development opportunities, perform management and evaluation for all Clinical Documentation staff, perform timekeeping duties, responsible for screening and hiring of new employees.

What You Will Need:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Broad knowledge of health care regulations. The ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures, in addition to the ability to analyze complex clinical scenarios and apply critical thinking
Must have extensive knowledge of reimbursement systems, federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation and coding
Graduation from a program of Nursing, BSN and/or Bachelors of Science in Health Information Management or related degree , Registered Health Information Administrator and/or Certified Coding Specialist certification
8 years+ acute care experience with recent management or supervisory experience of clinical documentation program.
Supervised a full time Registered Nurses or Clinical Documentation Specialists.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Current RN licensure or obtain Florida License within 6 months or Registered Health Information Administrator or Certified Coding Specialist certification
PREFERRED LICENSURE OR REGISTRATION
ACDIS certification desirable.
The Clinical Documentation Department Director is a Registered Nurse and/or a Registered Health Information Administrator with a high level of clinical proficiency necessary for the oversight of the Clinical Documentation team which is comprised of registered nurses and clinical documentation specialists. Is responsible for overseeing the review processes of complex patients that vary in age and have different developments in the acute and chronic disease states. Must have proven leadership and management skills that will promote effective and efficient review of physician documentation that supports the patient’s level of care and develop action plans for improvement. Must have knowledge and job experience in management of processes, system implementations and project management.
The Clinical Documentation Improvement Director works extensively with hospital Chief Medical Officers and Chief Nursing Officers of currently 9 hospitals in West Florida Division in a matrix relationship to coordinate the efficient review and documentation capture of the underlying conditions that are supported by the physicians’ secondary review of the patient record, upon request of the clinical documentation team members. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants; as well as department Directors for: Quality Assurance/Improvement, Revenue Integrity, Coding and Data Quality, Case Management and Health Information Management and all Adventist Health System corporate departments, including but not limited to, Office of Clinical Effectiveness, Adventist Information Technology, etc.
The Clinical Documentation Improvement Director, in collaboration with the hospital clinical leadership, creates a support structure within each medical staff at all Division Hospitals for achieving clinical and operational excellence in relation to Clinical Documentation Improvement efforts. Is involved in the direction and education of all phases of the Clinical Documentation process and will be held accountable to work in a collegial manner with physicians, staff, and consultants. Requires skill and leadership in managing the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Documentation Department teams at each hospital comprised of registered nurses and clinical documentation specialists and manages the staffing and training needs. Tracks and trends program compliance. Assumes responsibility for professional development by participating in workshops, conferences, and/or in-services and maintains appropriate records of participation.
