The Assistant Nurse Manager position is located in Nursing Service-Specialty Clinics Blue Team at the West Haven campus. This position is a full time position at 40 hours per week. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager will function as a supervisor and assume accountability for the operation of services on Specialty Clinics Blue Team. This includes the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health care staff. As a registered nurse, the Assistant Nurse Manager is also responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidenced-based nursing standards of practice. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the ANM creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager will promote, create, demonstrate and ensure a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected. Major duties include: Applies skills necessary to identify and/or coordinate discipline-specific education and training in professional staff development; Serves as a nurse supervisor and provides oversight for administration of leave, counseling and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager; strict confidentiality is exercised in all clinical and administrative matters; Acts as the Nurse Manager during times of Nurse Manager absences; Contributes to the establishment and implementation of evidenced-based nursing standards of practice; Maintains high level of clinical expertise and serves as role model to staff; Uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice in collaboration with all interdisciplinary services to develop and improve systems to provide high quality patient-centered care and measurable outcomes; Understands the principles of High Reliability Organizations, Systems Redesign and positive patient relations and participates in projects related to same; Adheres to established policies, standards for care and standards of practice; Actively participates in committees and/or performance improvement activities; Tracks record of active committee membership; May be required to assist with patient care based on patient needs. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the higher level. Notifications: This position is a not a Bargaining Unit position. This position is covered by a special rate. Selectee may be required to work at any VA Connecticut Healthcare System campus, as needed. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Excepted Service. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will recommend the grade and salary for new appointments based on the candidate's education and experience. For internal selectees being promoted, the board will determine grade and HR will determine step in accordance with policy.
