The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is seeking a Registered Nurse (Care Manager) for the Surgery Service Specialty Clinic . The VA Ann Arbor Surgery Service is looking to add a new member to its Surgery Service team! The Surgery Clinic Care Manger works in the Surgery Clinic arena. Responsibilities include assuring that appropriate documentation reflects patient assessments and interdisciplinary treatment plans in preparation for surgery or minor clinic procedures. The incumbent will primarily provide additional support to the Urology Clinic but may be asked to provide short term coverage to any other surgery sub-specialty or procedural clinic. In addition, the nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care to adult and geriatric patients, through collaborative strategies, in compliance with the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, Medical Center, and VAHQ standards of practice. The incumbent provides direct nursing care to individual and groups of patients under the immediate guidance and direction of the clinic's Nurse Manager, Nurse Practitioners and ultimately the Chief, Surgery Service. The incumbent will also take direction, as applicable to the functioning of the clinic, from resident and attending staff. The incumbent will coordinate changes in the clinic schedule with the patient and clinic staff; optimize patient throughput; ensure timely documentation; organize and manage consults, coordinate equipment/RME needs to increase clinic utilization and throughput. In addition, the incumbent will provide education to surgical clinic patients as directed by the NPs and Chief of the service; coordinate multiple consult/appointment follow ups as needed and any other duties assigned by the supervisor. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Make routine patient return phone calls - Identify red flag phone calls or patient issues to bring to the attention of NP or resident/attending staff - Management of clinic profiles - Consult completion management - Attendance at facility Care Manager meetings - Patient education in clinic - Assist with resident teaching in clinic - Manage daily workflow of the clinic - Service specific duties within Scope of Practice - Provide communication link between administrative support staff and other departmental support staff - Create and maintain standard operating procedure and competencies for all reusable medical equipment. - Provide back-up clinical service coverage for other surgical specialties to ensure adequate service coverage for staff illness, vacation, etc. - Any additional work assigned by the supervisor Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, day shift.
