You Will Be Responsible For:
The Principal Biostatistician Manager oversees and manages a team of biostatisticians. This leader is responsible for the strategic staffing, hiring, and management of biostatisticians that supports research across multiple therapeutic areas within AHRI. This position collaborates with investigators and research teams to formulate scientifically sound research designs and statistical plans. The Principal Biostatistician Manager performs data analysis and assists investigators and research teams in scientific writing and reporting of outcomes. This leader will also play a role in the education programming through design and teaching of biostatistics related curriculum. This leader actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
What You Will Need:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
PhD in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, sociology, or related field in research and measurement
Minimum 8-10 years of research experience as a research biostatistician
Minimum of 2 years or supervisory or leadership experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
3-5 years of research experience as a medical research biostatistician
Project specific experience in psychometrics, genomics, transcriptomics, or other “omics” area
Established body of research inquiry with funding/potential for external funding
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
SAS Base Analytics Certification
SAS Advanced Analytics Certification
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Expert understanding of theoretical and applied statistics, research design, and data measurement
Ability to work independently or collaboratively. Respectful and effective communicating with AHRI research departments, investigators, and research teams
Teaching and scientific writing skills
Organizational and multi-tasking skills
Supervisor and leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of the biostatistics core members
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Advanced skills with statistical programming languages such as SPSS, SAS, R, etc.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to include gathering and presenting results to Scientific Leadership, physician investigators, and other stakeholders
Able to adjust personal style to meet research customers with differing skill levels to ensure successful collaboration
Makes recommendations for AHRI-selected software for study analysis
Ability to do effective staff training and development
Computer skills: MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), Internet and other research tools, and databases
Supervises biostatisticians and completes performance reviews.
Report out metrics associated with biostatistical support process.
Contributes to annual department operating and capital budget formation and tracks adherence to budget on monthly basis.
Provides input to senior leaders on operating budget. Collaborates with Operations Manager on both reporting variances and developing solutions to address those variances for senior leaders.
Respectful and effective communication with physician scientists, other scientists, and administrators.
Develops and maintains strategic relationships across the organization.
Serves as subject matter expert in statistics to internal and external investigators, physician scientists, and study teams across the organization.
Provides oversight of statistical analysis plans developed by biostatistics personnel.
Provides oversight to data cleaning process as performed by biostatistics personnel.
Develops and performs complex programming and analyses. Acts as software expert for internal groups and maintains software options for biostatistics personnel.
Performs and provides oversight of the analyses, documentation, and quality control procedures performed by biostatistics personnel.
Designs and performs power analyses, statistical analyses, and interpretation of results for investigators and research teams and leads execution by biostatistics personnel.
Generates output and quality check of outputs for publications; reviews publication (abstract/manuscript) to ensure accuracy, quality and soundness of statistical methodologies produced by biostatistical personnel.
Develops system-wide educational content and teaches curriculum related to protocol development, research design, and statistics.
Evaluates evidence for members of Protocol/Scientific Review Committees and exercises sound and timely judgment for engagement of Sr. Manager as needed.
Provides expertise to research oversight committees and additional ad hoc committees formed to manage unexpected crises (e.g., COVID-19).
Manages day-to-day biostatistics operations. This includes project allocation, project tracking, and communication with physician investigators and other research scientists while maintaining high standards of customer service.
Allocates resources to execute biostatistics initiatives in collaboration with Senior Leaders. Ranks studies in queue to prioritize high impact and time sensitive projects.
