Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) is looking for a highly qualified, full-time physician to serve as the Associate Director for Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) of its Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). The MVAHCS is a tertiary referral health care facility with affiliated hospital and community-based clinics. It is a major teaching site for medical students, residents, fellows and allied health trainees, and maintains a large, well-funded research program. The Minneapolis GRECC is an interdisciplinary center of excellence with a three-part mission: Conduction of geriatrics and gerontology research Development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of models of clinical services that enhance care and improve health outcomes for older Veterans Education and development of current and future geriatrics and gerontology investigators, educators, clinicians and leaders. Historically, Minneapolis GRECC activities have focused on aging brain. In recent years, while maintaining one focus on aging brain, our GRECC has expanded the scope of our education and research activities to additional geriatric foci, including metabolism, mobility, medications, and "what matters." Additional Responsibilities include Leading and collaborating on local, regional and national geriatrics and gerontology education and program development and evaluation Coordinating, developing, teaching, evaluating and disseminating geriatrics-related educational programs to multi-disciplinary VA staff and medical and allied health trainees that increase knowledge and change behavior to improve the quality of geriatric care Coordinate, develop, teach, evaluate and disseminate educational programs on aging research methods to young investigators to increase their knowledge and improve the quality and impact of their research Secure funding and develop infrastructure to support MVAHCS GRECC educational programs Develop, conduct and publish geriatrics and gerontology education-related and other geriatrics and gerontology research Collaborate with the MVAHCS GRECC Associate Director for Clinical Innovation (AD/C) to design, evaluate and disseminate geriatrics-focused clinical demonstration projects. The Associate Director of Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) is expected to obtain an academic appointment through the UMN Medical School and to participate in activities in their academic home department at the MVAHCS and UMN. Some GRECC physicians have contributed clinical service to their MVAHCS home academic departments, including infrequent call on resident-staffed inpatient services, at the discretion of the GRECC Director, though this is not explicitly required for this position. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
