Looking for your next career challenge? We are excited to recruit a Director, Media & Public Relations who is passionate about using marketing and communications capabilities to position MSK as a leader in cancer treatment, patient care, and research!
Reporting to our Senior Director, you will:
Be responsible for the day-to-day and longer lead external communications strategy
Run operations of our dynamic and proactive in-house team
Play a leading role in the management and oversight of our external PR agency of record
Highlight MSKs institutional initiatives and partnerships, surgeons, medical oncologists, scientists, and clinical leadership by pursuing national and local media relations activities, op-ed creation, and thought leadership speaking opportunities
Prepare MSK clinicians and researchers for consumer and trade interviews through media training, guidance, and sharing of best practices
Develop key initiatives, campaign strategies and messaging, draft press releases, announcements, digital multimedia content, and communications materials related to updates and advances across MSK
Work collaboratively with the internal Marketing & Communications groups by regularly sharing ideas, developing content, and amplifying stories about MSK staff and innovations across integrated channels and capabilities
Liaise with faculty and staff of all departments to identify practice-changing advances and innovations, scholarly publications, patient stories, and other information that illustrates the quality of MSK Care
Support initiatives to advance communications goals, including news items, biographical statements, digital multimedia storytelling, press releases, social media, and more
10+ years of experience in media relations, communications, and related fields - preferably supporting healthcare clients, in-house or at an agency
Experience handling issues management, managing a diverse results-focused media relations team while leading complex initiatives, and comfort advising leadership/C-Suite
Longstanding media relations contacts and relationships at the national, local, and trade level
A passion for sharing MSK stories with the world a driven and creative storyteller with the capacity to prioritize and work under tight deadlines
Comfort and literacy in health and cancer topics; proven ability to translate complex subject matter in these areas for lay audiences
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A collaborative spirit, solution approach, and the ability to connect across any level
