The Wilmington VA Medical Center Associate Chief Nurse (WV AMC), Ambulatory and Extended Care (ACN-AEC), is responsible to the WVAMC Associate Director Patient Care Services/Chief Nurse Executive (ADPCS/CNE). The Wilmington VA Medical Center Associate Chief Nurse (WV AMC), Ambulatory and Extended Care (ACN-AEC), is responsible to the WVAMC Associate Director Patient Care Services/Chief Nurse Executive (ADPCS/CNE) for establishing, maintaining and providing oversight for the delivery of nursing care and management of nursing personnel and clinical resources for the following areas: Primary Care, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC), Specialty Clinics, Community Health, and the Community Living Center (CLC). He/she functions as a member of the Nursing Leadership team. The incumbent functions at an advanced level in nursing administration and serves as an advisor to the Chief Nurse Executive and executive management team on issues of nursing practice and clinical operations within their assigned areas. The ACN-AEC advises the ADPCS/CNE on matters concerning policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as interpretation of state board of nursing regulations. The ACN-AEC oversees Nursing Labor and Management Relations for assigned areas. He/she collaborates with WV AMC leadership to ensure the alignment of nursing programs, policies, and resources consistent with the facility's mission and goals. The ACN-AEC provides leadership, guidance and direction for operations of the WV AMC nursing management team for assigned areas. The ACN-AEC will provide direct supervision of the Nurse Managers for the aforementioned assigned areas. The ACN-AEC will function as the ADPCS/CNE in his/her absence as assigned. The ACN-AEC is responsible for ensuring fulfillment of the WV AMC Mission, Vision, and Values, as well as the goals of the WV AMC, VISN 4, and the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The ACN-AEC executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for professional nursing practice. The incumbent is responsible for methodology, approach, interpretation and evaluation of assigned program; accountable for success and outcome of assigned program. The incumbent is responsible for the integrity of professional nursing practice as a discipline based in competency, scope of practice, and standards of care and performance for assigned areas. The ACN-AEC, in collaboration with the ADPCS/CNE, directs the practice and operations of professional nursing across multiple environments of care. In collaboration with WV AMC nursing leadership, the ACN-AEC provides leadership for the development and implementation of consistent, uniform and appropriate standards for nursing practice across the WV AMC. In addition, the ACN-AEC, in collaboration with nurse managers, ensures that nursing practice is consistent with nationally recognized professional standards, statutes, regulations and current nursing research findings. He/she promotes a practice environment that empowers nurses to provide effective, compassionate, and efficient nursing care. The ACN-AEC serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit, and retain future nurse leaders. The incumbent is a catalyst for the integration and collaboration of nursing with other disciplines and services in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. The incumbent will provide input for determining budgetary requirements and responsible for allocating program's resources. The ACN-AEC is responsible for an organizational climate & culture that insures employee diversity, recognition and safety. Incumbent will be a member of the Clinical Leadership Board in order to provide input on the clinical operations that affect Patient Care Services. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Director, Chief of Staff, Associate Director of Operations, Chief Financial Officer and their administrative staff.
