One of healthcare's most successful, respected and innovative organizations, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), is pleased to announce the recruitment of a critical leadership role – its next Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive (SVP/CNE). This is a unique, career-defining opportunity for an exceptional and inspirational nursing leader.
HSS is on a journey. Already the world’s leading healthcare organization focused on musculoskeletal health, it believes in earning – each day – its reputation and position atop the market. Annually serving more than 135,000 patients from all 50 U.S. states and 80 countries, it excels in patient care as well as in research, innovation and education. HSS has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the nation's top orthopedics hospital for twelve consecutive years. Its "Net Promoter Score," a leading indicator of customer satisfaction, is on par with that of Apple Inc. and other organizations that far outpace competitors.
As it expands its global reach and reputation, HSS believes in getting better, not just bigger. Better for HSS is more than a descriptive adjective or philosophical aim. It is thought of as a verb—getting people back to doing what they love sooner and at the highest achievable level, through art and science. It is operationalized in every HSS decision and action. It is what allows the organization to stay motivated, find purpose and believe it can scale its ideas and solve some of the world's greatest health challenges.
The organization's next Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive (SVP/CNE) will live and breathe this bold vision and look to expand the role beyond that of a traditional nursing officer. Reporting to the President and CEO of HSS, Louis A. Shapiro, the SVP/CNE is a core member of the senior leadership team. This executive will be involved in operations, strategy, and creating the future for more than 1,200 nurses across the continuum of care, as well as collaborating with the CEO, leadership colleagues and care teams to drive growth and innovation to constantly better a great organization.
Over the coming years, HSS will continue to develop system components and clinical partnerships critical to their evolution, including new access sites and locations, growing their physician network and emphasizing system growth. The SVP/CNE will support the growth, ensuring that HSS’s standards and practice of care are established and implemented at all new entities. The CNE will be a role model to provide focus, organization, and follow-through; and a leader who supports and encourages staff development and has a participatory management style. The successful candidate will exhibit transformational leadership characteristics such as charisma, presence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration.
A master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, business, or related field is required, as well as a current New York RN License or the ability to obtain one.
