This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more This position is in the Surgical Service Department at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. The Surgical Service Clinical Operations Manager (SCOM) reports to the Chief of Surgical Service. The SCOM manages, directs, and oversees operation of Surgical Service outpatient clinics and inpatient services in the Birmingham VA Medical Center. The SCOM will have a staff supervisory position. The Surgical Service staff is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, healthcare team members, and other support staff members. In addition, Surgical Service is a learning site for Surgery fellows and residents, as well as PA and Medical students. The SCOM optimizes Surgical Service clinical operations to achieve veteran and staff satisfaction, high-quality veteran care, clinical efficiency, utilization, and best practices while adhering to VA policies and directives. The SCOM creates a culture of teamwork, transparency, and accountability. The SCOM establishes clear processes to develop, introduce, and maintain policies. The SCOM communicates targeted information about clinic utilization, consult management, best practices, and scheduling initiatives to staff in a manner that maximizes understanding of context, impact on clinic care, and required responses. The SCOM supports and develops plans for both clinical autonomy and specialization, as well as teamwork at the inpatient and outpatient level. The SCOM will be fully qualified to function in an administrative and management role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Birmingham VA Medical Center. This individual is a senior member of the Advance Practice Provider staff with proven clinical experience, a strong history of surgical patient care and experience, a thorough understanding of the various functions involved in the care of patients, and the ability to interact effectively with different medical and surgical specialists, health care team members, and administrative staff. The Surgical Clinic Operations Manager has the delegated authority and responsibility to assume educational, administrative and management duties and assignments related to surgical service clinical operations.
