The incumbent's primary responsibility is to assure a seamless flow/movement of patients that minimizes wait times and diversion, avoids unnecessary patient movements, and promotes timely discharges. He/she maintains current knowledge of actual and anticipated bed availability, patient census, admission cap limits, Emergency Department activities, Operating Room activity transfer list, Critical Care activity, and staffing in order to facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges. The Bed Management/Patient Flow Coordinator (BMS/PFC) registered nurse has excellent clinical, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. The BMS/PFC is knowledgeable of InterQual criteria, utilization management processes, clinical documentation requirements, current standards of care, and compliance guidelines.
