The Chief of Neurology Section position at the VA Memphis will encompass the breadth of clinical care, including inpatient consultation, outpatient clinic and management of the Neurology Section in addition to supervision of other Neurologists and trainees assigned. The VAMC Memphis cares for Veterans within the Midsouth, with catchments in Western Tennessee, Eastern Arkansas, Northern Mississippi and parts of Missouri and Kentucky. Duties include but are not limited to: Ensures Neurology care is delivered in accordance with hospital policy, meeting or exceeding community standards and VHA national benchmarks. The Neurology Chief will have primary responsibility for supervising other Neurologists in the Section, and to ensure that they are performing to the highest standards of clinical care excellence, time efficiency, professional and ethical behavior. Assures care of patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings are smooth, patient centric and safe. This includes but is not limited to, collaboration and good communication with the Emergency Department, Subspecialty Services and/or Clinics admitting patients to the hospital. Supervises all operational aspects of the Neurology Section, including establishment of the highest clinical care standards, operations, and quality. The position will qualify for credentialing and privileging for admission, evaluation, treatment, consultation, telehealth, order diagnostic studies and procedures and perform general Neurology procedures except as specifically excluded from practice, on patients of all ages with symptoms of neurological dysfunction. Primary duties are to perform full general neurological examinations on established or newly consulted patients in the Neurology clinics, inpatient wards or Emergency Department for signs or symptoms of neurologic dysfunction or disease. Responsibilities will include expanded use of non-traditional care such as (CVT), electronic consultation (e-consult) to improve access to neurological care.
