This is truly an extraordinary time to join the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN).  LVHN serves nine counties in eastern Pennsylvania with nine hospital campuses, nearly 2,000 inpatient beds and $4 billion in revenue, over 275 physician practices, 55 rehabilitation locations, more than 80 testing and imaging centers, 25 health centers and 20 ExpressCARE locations.  The network currently has two new hospitals under construction and a significant network ambulatory expansion is underway. 

Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute is committed to providing patient-centric care which is driven by its team approach to the future of medicine. The Institute is composed of a team of more than 200 musculoskeletal providers, each of whom has subspecialty interests. The Clinical Divisions include: foot/ankle, hand, spine, trauma, pediatrics, podiatry, total joint replacement, sports medicine, pain management, chiropractic medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Their orthopedic surgeons perform approximately 17,100 procedures annually. Orthopedic surgery at LVHN offers a comprehensive approach to the treatment of patients with muscle, bone and joint disorders, including problems related to injury or trauma, sports injury, arthritis, rheumatology, cancer, osteoporosis or other metabolic bone diseases. 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Physician-in-Chief (PIC), Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute will report to the Executive Vice President and Chief Physician Executive, Lehigh Valley Health Network. The PIC will be a senior orthopedic surgeon with a national reputation for excellence in orthopedic surgery and will serve as the top physician leader for the Institute.  In close coordination with his/her dyad operations partner, the PIC will co-lead the strategy, growth and development of this new Institute to ensure its long-term success.  The PIC will also help drive performance metrics across the health system with respect to both quality and profitability.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

• Brings an impeccable national reputation in orthopedics as an outstanding clinician. Minimum 5 years of leadership, educational and clinical achievements, preferably in a large integrated health care system setting or academic medical center setting.

• An exceptional record of accomplishment as a leader and clinician with proven ability to manage the complexity of the orthopedic service line across a health care system enterprise.

• Demonstrated leadership role in a complex interdisciplinary setting with demonstrated strategic and implementation skills, particularly with respect to balancing the Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute mission.

• The leadership skills necessary to ensure the development of new educational and research programs while building the key relationships linked to the clinical mission of the total enterprise.

• Senior level administrative expertise that has included strategic and operational planning, preparation of budgets, effective management of resources within a budget, personnel organization and management, and staff recruiting.

• Exhibits an appreciation for the need for preparation, collaboration, planning, communication, and benchmarking of results in her/his approach to problem solving and program building.

• Understands the value of health-related research and education and the capability to help to integrate the research and clinical enterprises.

• Outstanding communication skills.

EDUCATION

• An MD or DO with a proven track record as a superior orthopedic surgeon.

• Board Certification in Orthopedics is required; Fellowship training preferred.
