SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Provides leadership and oversight of the operational and clinical management functions of the PSHMC Cancer Institute (PSCI) and associated Academic Practice Clinics, to include operational excellence, clinical quality, financial performance and patient experience goals. This leader will provide day-to-day guidance to cancer stakeholders across PSHMC and support their clinical teams to collectively advance the mission and optimal efficiency – spanning ambulatory clinics, infusion center(s) radiation-oncology, access center, BMT program, cancer quality, cancer registry and all cancer-specific accreditations. This role will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring the longer-term strategic growth plan of the PSCI operations, as part of the broader HS service line strategy. This leader will work collaboratively with senior leadership, members of the medical staff and of the HS in pursuit of National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation as a Cancer Center by ensuring ease of access to clinical offerings and flawless execution of clinical trial protocols.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Master's degree required.
Ten (10) years of related experience required.
Five (5) Years of healthcare experience.
Seven (7) years of experience direct people management Program or project management experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Committed to the successful execution of multi-year strategies and system-wide goals that improve clinical quality and safety, seize growth opportunities, enhance the patient experience, ensure value-driven and efficient use of resources, the training and development of the workforce, develop stronger alignment with the medical staff, and provide new and enhanced services that respond to community needs as well as differentiate PSCI in a competitive and dynamic regional market
Provide straight-forward and transparent leadership and guidance in improving operational performance, promoting real-time problem solving, while developing and deploying a results-oriented, accountable, responsive, and accessible leadership and management team.
Pursue growth as the 'hub' in the Penn State Health oncology service line and develop seamless network/referral processes, which leverage the size, clinical strengths, resources, and reputation for quality and service of PSCI and its medical staff.
Nurture an institutional/health system mindset for clinical innovation through business processes and performance measures. Provide leadership and guidance in the development of effective accountability systems which link individual, departmental, service line, and system-wide priorities, goals, and objectives. Promote an health system culture which is responsive, results oriented, efficient, and accountable.
Promote and support physician alignment activities that 1) recognize and communicate the importance of partnering with physicians, 2) actively involve medical staff in key decision-making and core program development, 3) engage physicians in defining and pursuing patient safety, quality and performance improvement initiatives, and 4) acknowledge and promptly respond to the day-to-day needs and concerns of the medical staff.
Lead or oversee initiatives such as productivity management, LEAN process improvement, benchmarking, revenue enhancement, and throughput improvement to drive ever greater performance – in terms of both revenue growth and expense control, while concurrently providing the highest quality of patient care.
In partnership with membership of the executive team, work to create a culture of leadership in which problem-solving and decision-making are collegial, decisive, action-oriented and associated with appropriate time lines and accountabilities. As well as promote and assist in ensuring a cultural of inclusion and diversity within the Medical Center operations.
Ensure that the operational and budgetary management systems and processes are in place to meet and maintain annual goals for PSCI and the oncology service line in achieving 1) exceptional clinical outcomes; 2) exceptional patient, employee, and physician satisfaction; and 3) exceptional financial outcomes (meet or exceed budget targets).
