The role you’ll contribute:
The Regional Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) is a registered nurse who ensures expertise of the Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDSs) and excellence in execution of the clinical documentation function within the Great Lakes Region to improve the quality and outcomes of patient care. The Regional CDI Director, through their team of CDSs and with the assistance of facility CMOs, is responsible to maintain compliance with documentation requirements for AHS facilities and ensure medical record documentation conveys accurate, concise data that reflects severity of illness and intensity of service in the delivery of patient care. The Regional CDI Director provides oversight, leadership and provides recommendations to improve the CDI program. Central to this oversight includes orientation and ongoing training of CDI staff to continually improve performance. This includes development of training materials, training for software enhancements, and other developments related to documentation of compliance with CMS regulations and expanding CDI initiatives that are integral to facilitating optimal patient outcomes including compliance and accurate reimbursement. The Regional CDI Director facilitates collaborative relationships with CMOs, Coding, Nursing, Care Management, PFS and other functions required to optimize the clinical documentation function and who rely on the work-product of the CDI function to perform their roles.

- Provides direction to CDSs to ensure that the level of physician documentation in the EMR accurately reflects the severity, intensity, and complexity of patient care.
- Demonstrates advanced clinical documentation expertise for CDI programs that align with practice excellence for all AHS facilities.
- Directs CDI advanced practice calls to provide education to CDSs that provides up to date practice guidelines and addresses issues or concerns raised by CDS leadership or staff.
- Manages monthly compliance audits and oversees process improvement initiatives.
- Oversees education of CDI Best Practice via communication through newsletters, advanced practice calls and meetings with multidisciplinary teams at the region and facility levels.
- Identifies opportunities for program improvements and initiates and collaborates with CDI team and CMOs to advance those improvements.
- Initiates and collaborates with CDI team and CMOs to advance program improvements and expansion as directed by AH Senior Executives.
- Collects and analyzes data for reporting, tracking and trending purposes.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly reports for distribution to regional, facility and corporate leadership.
- Develops and maintains liaisons with other CDI professional leaders at the state and national level to build working relationships within the healthcare industry.
- Collaborates on case analysis review with fellow team members and CMOs to provide feedback and recommendations to facilities CDS teams and physicians.
QualificationsThe expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor prepared Registered Nurse (BSN, RN)
- Hospital acute direct patient care experience greater than 3 years
- Three years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist in the acute hospital care setting
- Previous leadership experience of a clinical documentation team as a manager or above
- Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
