Lutheran Services in American's next President and Chief Executive Officer will identify new ways to grow, diversify and sustain the organization's mission. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the President and Chief Executive Officer will be directly responsible for continuing to set LSA’s strategic direction. The organization has a unique structure that supports broad, results-oriented health and human services work.
Lutheran Services in America is a national network of 300 Lutheran health and human services organizations that reaches 6 million, or 1 in 50, people in America each year. Recognized by The Chronicle of Philanthropy and Forbes as one of the nation’s top nonprofit organizations, the Lutheran Services in America network operates in over 1400 communities in 45 states and has more than $23 billion in combined annual revenue. The network organizations employ close to 250,000 people and engage approximately 150,000 volunteers. A broad range of health and human services is provided to people from children, youth and families to older adults, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, refugees, veterans, people experiencing homelessness and more. Programs and services are open to all. The organization brings the collective power of its network to build innovative collaborations with its members and strategic partners in philanthropy, academia, healthcare and social services to address the most critical challenges in their communities and empower people to lead their best lives.
The President and Chief Executive Officer will be a highly visible and externally-focused leader, serving as a key advocate for Lutheran Services in America's national member network and the populations that LSA’s member organizations serve. This individual will possess strong administrative, fundraising and program development skills, be skilled at building internal and external networks for common purpose, and will also be adept at working with advocacy and other organizations around shared goals. It is expected that this person will have deep experience serving as a leader in a mission-based setting and experience in working with a Board to drive strategy and innovation.
