Position Summary:

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. Under the direction of the Director Acute Care Services, the Manager of Surgical Unit provides the overall management of the unit. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling all aspects of unit operations in collaboration with nursing and medical staff leadership to achieve clinical and service objectives, fiscal performance targets, the strategic plan goals, and service line initiatives of Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. The Manager is responsible for ensuring delivery of quality patient care in compliance with all regulations, adherence to hospital policies and procedures, and overseeing customer service, patient satisfaction and staff performance and competence. #Indeed

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluates, plans and develops standards and measurement tool to assess and improve staff and hospital performance with patient care
• Creates an atmosphere of team, accountability, and ownership, promoting cooperative behavior and excellent customer service
• Demonstrates effective leadership principles and communication
• Exhibits knowledge of accounting principles with understanding of business development as well as business economics and inventory management
• Collaboratively functions in cooperation with the leadership team in developing policies and procedures, strategic planning to efficiently and effectively meet the objectives of providing quality care and servicing product lines
• Interprets and equitably administers and enforces policies and procedures
• Projects effective communication with Medical Staff supporting optimal working relationships to promote teamwork with physicians and all health care providers to establish internal and external customer service
• Motivates, develops and directs staff, identifying the leaders for advancement
• Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive patient care issues and customer inquiries and/or complaints
• Ensures cost-effective daily operations and allocation of resources
• Maintains performance and competence of clinical personnel
• Provides quality service through effective management, planning and education
• Collaborates with the Director for any unit issues or concerns
