Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director - Molecular Microbiology.
Assists in designing and validating NAAT and NGS-based new molecular microbiology tests under the direction of the Director of Molecular Microbiology. Participates in assay development including the scientific R&D bench work, manages validation projects, reviews and analyzes test data, quality control, and laboratory workflow processes. Also participates in result review and interpretation. Participates in quality control program and regulatory compliance. Position reports to the Director of Molecular Microbiology and, in the absence of the Director, assists with overseeing laboratory operations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists in the process of designing and testing methodology and development protocols for new clinical tests.
- Assists in preparing and submitting assay validation reports for NY State or other government agencies.
- Processing of raw data and performing bioinformatics and other analyses.
- Preliminary review and interpretation of molecular data results.
- Under the direction of the Director creates and runs benchwork protocols for new research and development testing.
- Participates in designing and optimizing new protocols, including analysis of scientific literature and industry protocols, testing new reagents and assays, reviewing data quality and summarizing the results.
- Assists in managing laboratory operations in the absence of the director.
- Participates in monitoring of Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement processes in the Molecular Microbiology laboratory.
- Participates in regulatory compliance for the Molecular Microbiology laboratory. Participates in ensuring compliance with CAP, NYS, and Joint Commission.
- Follows all departmental biohazard, chemical, hazardous waste, infection control, and other safety police are followed.
- Participates in academic and educational activities of the Molecular Microbiology and the Department of Pathology.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD with two years of experience in developing and validating NAAT and NGS-based molecular tests and in bioinformatics of NGS-based molecular microbiology assays.
- New York State license as a clinical laboratory technologist or New York State Department of Health Certificate of Qualification as lab director for all categories of microbiology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD with four years experience.
