This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Preferred experience: best qualified candidate will have clinical and administrative experience in various Geriatric and Extended Care programs, with demonstrated skills and experience as a supervisor; experience in the VA healthcare system a plus. ["The Deputy Associate Chief of Staff, (D-ACOS), for Geriatric and Extended Care (GEC) Service, VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) will assist the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), GEC Service, in clinical operations and administrative management of various GEC services provided to our aging Veterans across all locations of VANCHCS and fulfilling the VA Mission. Functional Duties: The incumbent will be responsible for implementing, managing all clinical operations, and refining comprehensive patient management, clinical support, and administrative oversight of GEC services through interdisciplinary programs, under the guidance and in collaboration with the ACOS/GEC Service. He/She is expected to provide clinical leadership and administrative oversight for the GEC service line which includes providers, clinical leaders, administrative managers, and other supporting staff. The D-ACOS/GEC Service is responsible for the oversight of all clinical operations and continuous quality improvement through coordination of services, and customer service.\nHe/she will be primarily responsible to monitor clinical and administrative oversight to maintain and enhance Access, Quality, Satisfaction, and the provision of cost-effective care in all GEC programs at all locations. This may include close monitoring of various GEC and VHA metrics and performance measures in all GEC programs, serve as a subject matter expert in all GEC programs and key resource to other GEC and Medical Center Managers. In addition, the incumbent will participate in strategic planning along with the ACOS/GEC Service, in current and new GEC program development and prioritization of projects and alignment of resources. The D-ACOS/GEC Service oversees all Geriatric and Extended Care clinical operations at VA NCHCS sites; Sacramento (Mather), McClellan Park, Martinez, Redding, Chico, Yuba City, Mare Island, Fairfield, Auburn, Yreka, and future sites at Alameda Pointe, and Stockton, CA. Preferred that incumbent hold an academic position with one of the major academic affiliates of VA NCHCS and serve as the liaison for academic activities in GEC Service to coordinate academic rotations at various sites of GEC programs and assist with development and implementation of core curricula along with the clinical GEC Medical Directors for respective GEC programs. The D-ACOS/GEC Service will work closely with the ACOS/GEC Service, other clinical Service Chiefs or Program Managers in the Medical Center to build coalitions and enhance care coordination of clinical operations and academic activities in the Medical Center. The D-ACOS/GEC Service also works closely with Quality Management and is expected to support and be actively involved in systems redesign initiatives, to meet or exceed Joint Commission, meet or exceed all standards for Long Term Care, and Commission for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) requirements, and to actively work on the establishment on policies and procedures. Best qualified candidates will be seasoned clinicians who demonstrate extensive and progressive leadership experience, both as a clinician and an administrator and possess the ability to promote innovation, inspire organizational excellence, be able to build teams, and coach clinical leaders as they work toward common goals.
