The Endoscopy Operations Manager Nurse is a RN who will utilize the nursing process and evidence based practice in order to efficiently manage the operation of the Lebanon VAMC Endoscopy Units. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical demands include repetitive body movements including the following: frequent reaching, standing, walking, and lifting of equipment and/or patients to provide patient care. This position requires extension of the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction including above or below shoulder level, during the provision of patient care, including retrieval of needed equipment, supplies and to make contact with the patient. This position requires the maintenance of an upright position to perform duties associated with patient care. This position is typically non-sedentary, and frequently involves being in the standing position. This position requires moving about accomplish tasks, such as assisting with patient ambulation and moving one patient area to the next. This position requires the raising of objects from a lower position to a higher position or the movement of objects horizontally position to position. Lifting may be done to move a patient from one location to the next, i.e.- from the exam table to the chair, and in the movement of equipment or supplies. The Endoscopy Operations Manager Nurse functions within their scope of practice to effectively manage the outpatient Endoscopy unit in collaboration with the Medicine & Surgery Care Lines and Nursing. The Endoscopy Operations Manager Nurse RN will assume patient care duties and responsibilities when appropriate in order to expedite patient care. The Endoscopy Operations Manager Nurse RN is responsible for the proactive management and coordination of the Endoscopy Unit block schedules and all related physician staffing, equipment, and coordination requirements prior to the day of the procedure. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Adjust case length for inaccurately scheduled cases, based on analysis of average case times specific to the planned procedure. Adjust cases for closed endo suites. Alerts all parties for overbooked cases and canceled cases. (Endo nursing team/clinic schedulers/Nursing leadership). Works with GPM, clinic staff, medicine/surgery care line staff, and Endoscopists for changes in scheduled cases and add-ons. Communicates with OR leadership / OR Operations manager to ensure block times in Endo Suites are balanced with OR block time to prevent scheduling conflicts. Adjusts scheduled cases as changes impact schedule. Analyze scheduled and actual utilization of Endo procedures and suites, Endo room, and turnover times. Maintain case length history by provider. Evaluates need for additional block time. Provides onboarding process for any new providers/procedures and orientation. Reviews procedure consults ENDO /GI (EGDs) and pulmonary bronchoscopies to ensure special requests are met, automatic discontinued consults are reviewed, resolves scheduling conflicts, and all cases are scheduled per consult request. Works with ASU staff to ensure case volume pre-op availability is supported with pre-op and PACU rooms. Evaluates cancellation rate and tracking history within 48 hours and ensures re-scheduling as needed. Ensure results/pathology follow up is completed within required time. Monitors for missed opportunities in scheduling. Supporting an atmosphere where caring for Veterans is the foremost concept. Providing and coordinating quality care to fulfill performance expectations. Participates in establishing policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure adequate, comprehensive services. Evaluating the performance of subordinates. Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates.
