VA Northern California Health Care System is looking for a dynamic and committed physician to lead our Geriatrics Program at the Sacramento VA Medical Center!
This is a unique opportunity to be part of and lead a growing geriatrics team serving Veterans at VA Northern California Health Care System (NCHCS). As Medical Director, Geriatric Section, Geriatric and Extended Care (GEC) Service, this Supervisory Physician is involved in leadership and management of resources, organizational performance improvement, patient and employee satisfaction, environment of care, and strategic planning. This position reports to the Associate Chief of Staff/Geriatrics and Extended Care (ACOS/GEC) or Deputy Associate Chief of Staff/Geriatrics and Extended Care (Deputy ACOS/GEC).
The Supervisory Physician will lead the clinical staff in the Geriatrics Section, as part of the GEC Service, to achieve the Service's mission and goals. The position will be physically located in Sacramento, CA and includes responsibilities providing clinical and administrative oversight of Geriatrics/Dementia Consultation Clinics as well as the provision of primary care in a specialized Geriatric Patient Aligned Care Team (Geri-PACT), serving complex geriatric patients needing specialty services of Geriatrician led interdisciplinary coordinated services at various NCHCS sites. Current Geriatrics services include Geriatrics Consult Clinics/Geri-PACT Clinics at Sacramento, Martinez and Mare Island and Geriatrics Evaluation and Management (GEM) unit in Martinez’s Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care (CREC). The Supervisory Physician will provide programmatic oversight to the entire spectrum of Geriatrics services across the NCHCS service area, including Sacramento, Mare Island, Martinez, Redding, Stockton, Sonora, Modesto.
Geriatrics services are also supported by a Geriatrics specialty team including Psychology, Social Worker, Pharmacist and Nursing. The Medical Director, Geriatrics Section, will directly supervise the geriatricians as well as the Nurse Practitioners, and other select allied health professionals on the Geriatrics teams. The physician will also need to hold an academic position with UC Davis, our academic affiliate, and serve as the liaison for academic activities in Geriatrics Service to coordinate academic rotations at various sites of GEC. He/She will serve as the VA Site Director for ACGME accredited Geriatrics Fellowship Program.
Salary Range: $225,000 - $243,000
Work Schedule: 8:00-4:30 Monday – Friday; May take weekend call coverage on a rotating basis; Management reserves the right to change schedule to accommodate facility needs.

Candidates must: 1) be a US citizen, 2) possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state and 3) board eligible/certified in Family or Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and 4) and confirm vaccination for seasonal influenza and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), which are both requirements for all Health Care Personnel (HCP) employed by Department of Veterans Affairs. Preferred experience: Best qualified candidates will have Geriatric Medicine board certification and a minimum 2-years clinical and management experience in various Geriatric-based programs or services. Experience in building programs. Teaching experience to Medical Students and Residents/Fellows.
