Specimen Movement Manager for DUHS Clinical Laboratories
Responsible for managing and coordinating non-technical activities and operational support for specimenmovement to include specimen management areas and courier activities for DUHS Clinical Laboratories. This will include direct management of primary specimen management area at DUH, courier services and indirect management of all other specimen receipt and movement activities across Clinical Laboratories in order to insure standardization of policies and procedures relating to same.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Manage the operational policies and procedures of a clinical laboratory department units associated with specimen movement and receipt within the DUHS Clinical Laboratory system.
Lead investigations into issues arising around specimen movement and receipt which impact pat ient care and laboratory services.
Provide direction and support to the laboratory locations associated with specimen transport and receipt by implementing standardized procedures for both transport and receipt of all laboratory specimens maintaining consistency across all clinical laboratory locations.
Develop laboratory metrics to allow for monitoring and addressing quality control processes involved in transport and receipt of specimens.
Develop and monitor recruitment, selection, personnel orientation, and development and performance appraisal programs and processes.
Formulate short and long-range goals for the clinical laboratory units associated with specimen movement including the setting of priorities, assigning responsibilities, and establishing timetables; project future needs and formulate strategies consistent with projections, in concurrence with Senior Management.
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare an annual budget for the units.
Monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budget funds on a periodic basis.
Prepare capital budget requests as needed.
Prepare activity reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized, and output results and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Plan and conduct meetings with other staff to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards; represent the unit ininteractions with other units and members of the healthcare team.
Recommend and execute various human resource actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions and disciplinary actions. Monitor attendance and automated time reports.
Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family, and other medical personnel, as necessary.
Perform other related duti esincidental to the work described herein or as directed by Senior Management.
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Project Management, Quality Management and Lean Assessment or related field. Advanced training to include project management, quality improvement processes and employee management and supervision.
Seven years of laboratory experience, some of which must be of a supervisory nature. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Certification by a nationally recognized agency/board is required.
