This position is based in the Institute for Medicine and Public Health (IMPH) which exists to connect research and teaching with policy and practical solutions. The Institute is charged with re-imagining and amplifying collaborations across the institution and reaches across the state, nation, and the global community to translate knowledge into better health.
This position will be responsible for supporting and leveraging the IMPH and the STAR Clinical Research Network (CRN) to support population and public health research projects. It will support the Institute leadership by facilitating and executing a wide variety of complex projects and initiatives. The position will report directly to the Director of the IMPH.
The Vanderbilt Center for Health Services Research is a critical component for the Institute for Medicine and Public Health (IMPH) and engages with more than 160 scientists and other professionals across VUMC to conduct research and discover, implement, and disseminate workable solutions for modern-day problems in health care delivery, health care quality, and patient-center outcomes. Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
Research Operations Leadership
Functions as operations director for over 25 complex projects and initiatives within Institute for Medicine and Public Health.
Brings together diverse research teams across VUMC and 7 other institutions to develop large grant proposals.
Provides leadership and direct support for grant writing, budgeting, regulatory management (IRB and data use agreements), and contracting.
Oversees priority research projects across IMPH and affiliated research staff.
Engages faculty and staff to lead project proposals across the IMPH which includes more direct grant writing, budgeting, and regulatory engagement of complex, multi-site projects that are of high priority to the institution.
STAR Clinical Research Network Leadership
Serves as senior director that manages and coordinates the strategic and operational activities of the STAR Clinical Research Network. This Network, based and led by VUMC, includes partnerships with the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network (VHAN), Meharry Medical College, Duke, UNC, Wake Forrest, Health Sciences of South Carolina, and Mayo Clinic. The Network has grown significantly over the past 5 years and includes electronic health record data on over 14 million patients, and a diverse array of hospitals and clinics engaged in research. The Network has been involved with over 350 project proposals and is actively engaged with multiple large multi-site studies.
Leads program administration, operations, staffing, and evaluation for annual grant awarded funding, infrastructure contracts (and multiple subcontracts), and prospective funding. Leads a broader collaborative network across multiple entities, and extensive interactions with multiple stakeholders.
Responsible for overseeing multiple large project budgets, including reviewing and approving invoices from sites, stakeholders, and contractors.
Must stay up to date on the latest funder requirements as related to reporting, budgeting changes, and governance.
As an operations staff leader, manages cross-departmental staff and cross-institutional staff as it relates to the STAR CRN workload and directives (direct reports and multiple indirect reports within VICTR and STAR CRN institutions - Mayo, Duke, UNC, Meharry, Wake Forest, HSSC).
This is a full-time position.
