Responsible for managing provider relations within market with regard to physicians, hospitals, members, news media and general public. Acts as liaison to ensure all groups are effectively informed and updated by the health plan, as necessary. Plans, directs, and implements programs to increase use of facility services through selectively targeted relationships with managed care plans. Responsible for development and refinement of managed care strategy designed to identify economically beneficial HMO/PPO/EPO relationships for the organization. Routinely evaluates existing managed care programs, monitors contracting entities' performance, and negotiates new or renewal provider contracts. Effectively interfaces with all facility areas, particularly the IS, Finance, and Clinical areas, to guide, provide advice and assist those areas in achieving maximum benefit within a managed care environment.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
Strong analytical and financial abilities. Demonstrated skill using MS Office products including Excel and Word. Excellent organizational skills with ability to gather, analyze and interpret information. Understanding of healthcare delivery system and hospital operations; familiarity with group health insurance market, conventional indemnity, and self-insured products; awareness of physician referral arrangements; knowledge of managed care process, provider reimbursement and financial risk models; and utilization management procedures. High level of interpersonal skills, including political sensitivity, sound judgment, problem solving and negotiating skills. Prefer 3 years in healthcare with at least 2 years working in managed care contracting. Prefer contract negotiations.
