Job Summary
Offers spiritual and emotional support directly to the patients and their families and caregivers; team members; and, as needed, to the clergy of the patients. Responsible for teaching applicable philosophies and assisting with organization of daily activities as assigned.This Chaplain position is a non-benefited per diem 8-12 hour shift position in a fast paced level 2 trauma center that includes covering weekends, nights, and holidays. Master Degree in Divinity, Theology, Religious Studies, or related field required. 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required. Coverage of Geisinger Community Medical Center as needed.
Job Duties
Functions as a member of team by attending interdisciplinary team conference, support meetings, and other meetings as appropriate.
Assesses each patient and family and caregiver for spiritual needs and concerns in consultation with other team members.
Provides direct chaplaincy service (when accepted) to patients and their families and caregivers of different philosophies and religious perspectives.
Consults, if requested by patient and family, the patient's clergy of choice and advises him and her on admission.
Documents all visits and phone calls and places documentation in clinical record within an appropriate time frame.
Provides counseling as needed and requested.
Provides consultation, counsel, and support to other team members as appropriate.
Assists with training programs and in-services education as requested.
Assists with community education as applicable.
