The healthcare industry faces many problems – affordability, substandard customer service and inconsistency in care quality. Governments and employers struggle with funding health plans and have continued to shift more of the financial burden of care to consumers. Our healthcare system is not designed around the consumer needs, which has led to a subpar customer service interactions that have created an erosion of trust with patients. Inconsistent care quality and standards have led to poor patient outcomes and negative perceptions of health systems. We recognize that we must reimagine how we engage with our patients and the communities we serve to solve these salient pain points.
Baylor Scott and White (BSWH) is building a consumer-focused strategy to solve these problems. We are innovating new models of care and support as a part of a new Consumer Products business, which will function as an internal startup within the health system. The team will innovate and develop new products and market and sell them to reach consumers through multiple channels. Our initial product focus centers on virtual coaching, first contact navigation, next-gen urgent care, and centers of excellence.
The consumer products division is comprised of three groups – Strategy, Product and Customers. We are looking for people to join this exciting new team who are passionate problem solvers that want to develop a new care paradigm to positively transform how patients interact with our system.
Position Summary:
The Innovation Portfolio Manager is aligned under the Strategy group and will report to the Innovation Portfolio Director. The Strategy team will have a high visibility to BSWH’s top executives. The Innovation Portfolio Manager is responsible for supervising strategy and review of research intake to develop product and portfolio planning and strategy, as well as supervising product research projects while monitoring progress and reporting findings. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative team that is changing the status quo in how a healthcare provider goes to market and provides an environment that stimulates professional growth.
Responsibilities:
Manage enterprise market intelligence program
Execute market scan refresh to keep pulse on consumer needs with first-party (internal to health system) and third-party data (private equity, venture capital, other health systems)
Conduct analyses across BSWH’s key markets to determine share and service line trends
Support Knowledge Networks
Synthesize feedback from senior leadership and external sources as a result of knowledge networks
Support facilitation and preparation of knowledge network events
Analyze market data for opportunities and threats
Continuously monitor market and competitor activity
Assess actions taken by new entrants to market and propose approaches for how system can address
Ideate and evaluate potential products to bring to market
Adapt products to a versatile array of customer needs
Research use cases and business requirements
Tracks stages of product evaluation and development against process
Support determination of if products are more suited to internal development versus engaging in partnerships
Maintain and adjust scoring and scoping models for products based on feasibility, barriers to entry and market demand
Support annual budgeting and investment plan creation processes
Preferred Qualifications:
5-10 years of professional experience in healthcare
Experience in health system/health plan, startup and management consulting
Familiarity with key decision-making processes associated with employers, health plans and health systems
Record of progressive leadership experience
Bachelor’s degree in STEM or related field
Master of Business Administration or Product Development
Strong ties to the Dallas, Austin, or Houston communities
