Did you know that 70-80% of clinical diagnoses are made based on results found by testing professionals in a medical laboratory? Geisinger's Laboratory Medicine Clinical Co-Op Experience is designed to help senior high school students understand what happens from the time a specimen is collected, to when the sample is analyzed, to reporting those results out to the care teams.
Geisinger's medical laboratory team is excited to welcome interested students to learn more about the types and varieties of testing that happen in medical laboratories. This experience will open the door to traditionally unseen spaces, including microbiology, hematology, toxicology, coagulation, anatomic pathology, and more! This experience will show how automated, semi-automated, and manual testing are used to provide data to providers to diagnose, treat, and monitor patients.
