The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting a national search to identify a new Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine.
In consultation with the Head of the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the next Chair will have programmatic oversight and responsibility for the Department’s laboratory services and for advancing its clinical, research, and educational missions. The first responsibility will be to sustain and continuously improve the current clinical and operational excellence of the Department in providing laboratory services to the clinicians and patients of MD Anderson by establishing a pattern of interaction with clinical services, to ensure up-to-date laboratory test services and to advise clinicians on the proper utilization and interpretation of test procedures. The Chair must also maintain proficient working knowledge of procedures for quality control, assurance and test utilization as well as drive talent acquisition and retention, research, grant funding, professional development, mentorship, and residency and fellowship training programs.
Candidates’ experience should demonstrate a high level of skill in day-to-day operations of a diverse clinical laboratory setting. The selected individual will be responsible for developing a strategic plan to continue the growth of clinical services as the department continues to expand both in scope and reach, and the alignment of those services with the institutional strategy plan.
Qualifications:
M.D. or equivalent degree
Minimum 7 years academic experience in clinical pathology to include direct, progressive administrative duties which incorporate a high-volume multidisciplinary testing facility
Demonstrated excellence in the practice of laboratory medicine as defined by standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the College of American Pathologists.
National recognition and proven track record in clinical and/or laboratory research
Demonstration of leadership qualities essential to effective problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation
American board certified in Clinical Pathology (or equivalent training, if American board certification is not feasible)
Eligible for full and unrestricted Texas medical licensure
