Job Summary:
As a Population/Public Health Manager, this role works for the Vanderbilt Memory and Alzheimer's Center (VMAC) on projects focused on advancing scientific knowledge to reduce the public health burden of mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, and related disorders. Current active studies include multiple large NIH-funded projects.
1.Vanderbilt Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (P20) is a 3-year, $3.8M grant from the National Institute on Aging to establish an NIA-funded exploratory Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The P20 Center will support planning and infrastructure development for an eventual NIA-funded P30 ADRC designation for Vanderbilt. The transition to the P30 ADRC is slated for late 2023.
2.Vanderbilt Memory and Aging Project (VMAP) is a 5-year, $4.06M grant from the National Institute on Aging to support the longitudinal study investigating vascular health and brain aging. VMAP provides a unique resource to investigate the emerging intersection of vascular disease and Alzheimer's disease on cognitive health.
3.Subjective Cognitive Decline in Older Adults (SCD) is a 5-year, $4.1M grant from the National Institute on Aging to study the construct of "subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and identify profiles if SCD that are associated with different pathological pathways, such as Alzheimer's Disease, neurodegeneration, neurovascular disease, and neuropsychiatric conditions, determine the relation between SCD and longitudinal cognitive trajectories and the modifying effects of age, sex and vascular co-pathologies.

The Population/Public Health Manager is responsible for a high volume of communication with participants, their families or proxies, VMAC staff and faculty, and institution staff, as well as project management, including planning and tracking of participant scheduling data, advocating for participant participation, and other research-related and administrative duties as assigned. Although some travel may be required, this position will be based in Nashville, Tennessee USA in the VMAC offices.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Oversee participant screening, scheduling, and retention activities, including guiding participants and their families through all necessary components of the research study from screening to visit completion.
- Develop and implement traditional and innovative retention strategies to support longitudinal program goals.
- Serve as a liaison with medical and research staff involved in the day-to-day implementation of research protocols.
- Serve as an advocate for participants by establishing and maintaining communication with participants, their loved ones, investigators, and research staff.
- Revise scheduling and participant relations operating procedures as needed to assure quality and human subjects protection.
- Oversee the Center's REDCap participant recruitment and tracking database, including developing metrics and creating table and figure summaries to evaluate scheduling and retention outcomes.
- Oversee study cell phones, as needed (some night and/or weekend coverage is required)
- Partners with program leadership and research administration staff on matters related to financial management and compliance.
- Provides training and guidance for individuals supporting the program.
- Engages in research activities as needed to support project objectives.
- Lead the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and leading the training of study teams on relevant SOPs
- Exhibits cultural competence and cultural humility.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and minimum of one year of related experience.
The ideal candidate has clinical research experience, including determining participant eligibility, scheduling, and implementing study protocols; understands cultural challenges to recruitment and retention; is proficient in all Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; has excellent organizational and leadership skills, has exceptional attention to detail, and is able to master responsibilities quickly and independently while working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team and with community partners. Prior experience with Epic and REDCap is preferred but not required. Prior experience working with older adults or patients with neurological conditions is preferred but not required.
The successful candidate should be extremely organized, efficient, detail oriented, a team player, and a self-starter. Additionally, the candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to think and function independently. S/he must be able to multi-task while remaining helpful and courteous. Excellent time management and planning skills are essential.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is dependent on experience and education.

Whereas training can be considered more formal and scheduled, mentoring is often in the form of guidance and "hands-on" experiences.
