The Duke University Department of Radiology is recruiting a Program Director to oversee the Departments Diagnostic Radiology (DR) Residency Program. The Program Director will have responsibility, authority, and accountability for program administration and operations, resident teaching and scholarly activity, resident recruitment, evaluation, promotion and disciplinary action.

Overview

Our residency training program has long been a priority for the department, and a source of great pride for the faculty and department leadership.  It is recognized as one of the worlds great radiology training programs, known for curricular innovations, such as the 3/2 Program, and for clinically-focused training, which serves both the local Durham (North Carolina) community and global referrals to the world-renowned Duke University Medical School and Health System.  There are currently 40 residents in the DR program.  More information can be found on the program website: https://radiology.duke.edu/education/diagnostic-radiology-residency-program

Eligibility

Full-time, regular-rank faculty member (MD or MD equivalent) at or above the rank of Assistant Professor. The preferred candidate will have experience in leading educational programs.

Reporting Relationships

The DR Residency Program Director reports to the Department Chair and the Vice Chair of Education, and works closely with the Program Director of our Interventional Radiology (IR) Residency Program, Assistant DR Program Directors, the department Vice Chairs and Division Chiefs, as well as institutional training officials. 

General Summary, Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The role has 0.6 FTE allocated and includes the following specific responsibilities:

• Role model of professionalism
• Administer and maintain a learning environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME Competency domains.
• Design and maintain a curriculum that prepares residents for a future career in academic or community practice
• Maintenance of compliance with the program requirements of the Radiology Residency Review Committee (RRC), the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and Dukes Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) and GME Office.
• Appoint Associate Program Directors and delegate responsibilities
• Appoint and oversee the residency programs Clinical Competency Committee (CCC)
• Appoint and oversee the programs Resident Oversight Committee (ROC)
• Lead the annual recruitment effort for the DR residency program
• Promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
• Conduct regular review of the training program and ensure continuous program improvement
• Select Chief residents annually. Mentor and supervise Chief residents
• Oversee corrective action process for DR residents
• Oversee Residency Training Program budget
• Contribute to faculty development in education
• Uphold mission statements of the institution, department, and residency program
