The Division of Hematology/Oncology at Loyola Medicine is seeking a physician leader at an Associate or Professor ranking for the Coleman Endowed Chief of Hematology and the Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and Cellular Immunotherapy Program located in the greater Chicagoland area, Illinois.
The Chief of Hematology and Director of the Cellular Immunotherapy and BMT Program will provide administrative leadership, management, and quality program supervision for the clinical, research, and procedural activities of this Section of the Division of Hematology-Oncology. The Chief will collaborate with leadership across multiple disciplines and departments at Loyola Medicine to execute a cohesive organizational strategy that aligns with the mission and strategic plan of Loyola Medicine.
The Chief reports to the Division Chief of the Section of Hematology-Oncology and will work closely with the Cancer Center Director and Chair of Medicine.
An attractive package is being offered to include ample laboratory space, startup funding, and support staff for a translational Hematology/Cellular Therapy/Transplant research program. The ability to hire junior faculty will also be provided to the candidate.
The BMT Program at Loyola Medicine has long been a leader in Hematology research and therapy within the Chicagoland area and nationally with longstanding excellence of its Cellular Therapy and BMT Programs. Loyola University is a BMT-CTN core center as part of the Oregon Health and Science University consortium and is actively involved in the development and implementation of BMT-CTN clinical trials and has been a leader of SWOG malignant Hematology and BMT studies for the past 35 years.
The BMT Program performs over 120 adult transplants per year and an increasing number of CAR-T treatments in its dedicated inpatient and outpatient space to care for patients with its multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, social workers, nurse coordinators, and financial counselors. The BMT Program runs the outpatient High Dose Unit with 12-day hospital beds that afford it the ability to provide day long complex treatments including outpatient transplants on a 365-day basis.
The Loyola Medicine BMT Program was the first in the state of Illinois to perform CAR-T and continues to be a leader in this field as the only center capable of producing CAR-Ts in-house with its cGMP core lab. The BMT Program is fully accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). The center routinely performs allografts from matched related, matched unrelated, and haploidentical transplants and has been a leader in cord blood transplantation for the past 20 years.

Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC) is a 61 acre medical center campus conveniently located in Maywood, 13 miles west of the Chicago Loop. LUMC is a quaternary care facility with 547 licensed beds, a Level I Trauma Center, nationally recognized Burn Center, renowned Transplant Center, and a special 20-bed unit for patients undergoing stem cell transplant. The center provides top hospital care in all medical specialties, including orthopedics, nephrology, cardiology, cancer, ophthalmology, and surgery.
LUMC's Stroke Center has been honored by the American Stroke Association for its expert collaboration of professionals from emergency medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitative services, social work, nutrition, pharmacy, and other specialties.
The medical center was again designated a Level III Perinatal Center by the Illinois Department of Public Health, a designation recognizing centers that have demonstrated the highest level of expertise in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies, their unborn babies, and critically ill newborns.
LUMC has a close partnership with Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. Most faculty members have joint appointments at Hines and Loyola students and resident physicians rotate through Hines as part of their training. Researchers from Loyola and Hines collaborate closely on many federally funded studies
