The Director of the Benjamin Leon Center for Geriatric Research & Education in the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine will provide strategic vision and leadership to develop local, regional, and national excellence for the educational, research, and professional development initiatives of the Center. The successful candidate is expected to have a significant record of sustained accomplishments in extramurally funded basic, translational, epidemiological, or clinical research. This position will come with a generous start-up package.
Requirements
Board Certified Physician with relevant work related to aging.
Aging research through all medical specialties, population research related to aging/geriatrics, outcomes researchers
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Duties and Assignments
This position will be a Joint Recruitment between the Miami VA Healthcare System and Florida International University.
Possess administrative and leadership skills to manage the GRECC program.
Articulates and promotes the vision, mission, and goals of the GRECC program.
The successful candidate is expected to have a significant record of sustained accomplishments in extramurally funded basic, translational, epidemiological, or clinical research.
Establish an annual Clinical Innovative MOU with the VA medical facility Director and the VISN Director that outlines the responsibilities of each party to fulfill the mission of the GRECC.
Ensures that all GRECC Associate Directors and the Administrative Officer work collaboratively in the annual development and evaluation of the GRECC's goals and objectives.
Provide oversight of the collaboration between VA medical facility ACOS/E or DEO and GRECC Associate Director for Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) regarding clinical training experiences for all GRECC trainees.
Initiate all necessary personnel actions concerning GRECC Core Staff, including hiring, promotion, evaluation, recognition, counseling, reprimand, discipline, and termination.
Represent or delegate authority to represent, the GRECC on suitable committees, boards, and councils of the VA medical facility and VISN and to GEC in the Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO)
Establish with the host facility Director or the VISN Director, or designee, the GRECC performance plan and reviews the plan with that individual at least annually.
Demonstrate extensive skills and experience in clinical geriatrics, research and administration, as well as the ability to attract, motivate and lead innovative and productive researchers, clinicians and educators
At the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, the Physician (Geriatric) Service Chief will provide strategic vision and leadership to develop local, regional, and national excellence for the educational, research, and professional development initiatives of the Center.
Expected Salary Range: $300K+
Relocation may be provided.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm
Applicants should be eligible for the rank of Professor or Associate Professor at FIU.
