The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine seeks an outstanding leader and manager to serve as the next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Regional Campus at Fresno (UCSF Fresno). The CAO serves as the lead administrator for UCSF Fresno and as a key strategic advisor to the Regional Campus Vice Dean for all administrative operations and financial matters. The CAO directly reports to the Vice Dean and plays an integral role in stewarding UCSF Fresno as the premier hub of world-class academic medical training for California's San Joaquin Valley, advancing health in the region through teaching, patient care, research, and community partnerships.
UCSF Fresno emphasizes training students, residents, and fellows who are originally from the San Joaquin Valley and will remain in the region to deliver care and address the severe shortage of physicians in the area. With UCSF LCME reaccreditation scheduled for 2027, the Chief Administrative Officer will provide supportive leadership in preparing for and successfully executing this review. In addition to medical education, UCSF Fresno conducts medical research and clinical trials specific to San Joaquin Valley health issues including diabetes, heart failure, lung cancer, and Valley fever. Through a variety of pathway programs, UCSF Fresno prepares students from disadvantaged backgrounds for careers in health and medicine. UCSF School of Medicine ensures that every UCSF graduate is prepared for careers providing compassionate, patient-centered care, grounded in scientific and scholarly inquiry, social justice, anti-racism, and interprofessional teamwork.
The CAO is responsible for directing the business administrative operations for all areas of the UCSF Fresno campus, including Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education, Pathway Programs, Facilties, IT, Research Administration, and Finance. The CAO makes decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives for the UCSF Fresno campus, with multi-organizational influence. Working in tandem with the Vice Dean, the CAO strategizes, develops, directs, and coordinates financial planning and resource development for the campus' academic and operating budgets; establishes strategic plans and objectives benefiting the campus and University; evolves the campus's organizational structure as the campus adds new departments & programs; oversees the administrative team to ensure efficient and effective operations.
The CAO will be a collaborative, strategic leader of great integrity, bringing experience navigating complex clinical landscapes, have demonstrated experience administering educational programs, and demonstrate the ability to create a sense of shared purpose and community within the learning and care delivery environment. In carrying out these responsibilities, the CAO will address a number of key opportunities and challenges:

The salary for this role will be highly competitive, with the expected compensation starting at $242,000. When extending an offer of employment, UCSF considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
