The Manager, Nursing Support Registered Nurse (RN) - Facility is responsible for managing activities for facility, nursing staffing ensuring efficient facility operations. Provides oversight and leadership support to administrative supervisors, room control coordinator, staffing coordinator, and nursing float pool staff. Works collaboratively with other interprofessional team members, such as, respiratory therapy, radiology, social work, physicians and other practitioners, to ensure safe patient passage and efficient patient throughput within the facility. Directs and manages staff following the organization's mission, vision, values, and goals. Works collaboratively with the System Director and Manager of Nursing Support related to supplemental staffing by the Reward Staffing employees and contract labor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Serves as administrator of facility staffing and scheduling system.
Supports contingent staffing needs through knowledge and understanding of the hospital's service lines, bed capacity and capabilities, patient throughput processes and protocols.
Works closely with BSWH Director of Nursing Support Services and hospital Chief Nursing Officer and Administrator's offices or their designee to manage facility float pool scheduling, and proactively managing contingent staffing needs. Hires and manages employees in the hospital float pools and associated clerical personnel.
Develops performance plans, identifies performance issues, manages performance and career development of direct reports.
Coordinates hospital/nursing education to ensure appropriate onboarding, orientation, and competency assessment of Float pool staff prior to assigning worker to patient care.
Coordinates the educational activities of hospital Float pool staff; communicates new/revised protocols, guidelines, and standards to assigned staff as changes occur.
Interfaces with appropriate members of hospital nursing leadership relating to contingent staffing issues, including emergency disaster procedures.
Functions as a resource to nursing leaders to ensure efficient and cost-effective management of contingent workforce.
Develops reviews, revises, submits, and implements policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for hospital float pool and ensures that policies and procedures are complementary to BSWH goals and objectives.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies, and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment.
Knowledge of medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management; medications and drugs, common dosages, their physical and physiological effects, and possible adverse reactions.
Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.
Ability to provide age-specific, quality, patient-centered care to all patients through the nursing process and standards of nursing practice with sensitivity and respect for the diversity of human experience and to develop, evaluate, implement and, as necessary, modify a patient care plan to meet the needs of individual patients.
Ability to make operational decisions around how work gets done - quality and productivity standards, measurable goals for employees and project teams, etc.
Ability to use broader objectives to determine how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
Ability to make or approve effective hiring and termination decisions.
Ability to evaluate and recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect the managed organization.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
