The Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, Florida is seeking a candidate to hold the position of the Peavy Endowed Chair in Diabetes and the Division Chief of Endocrinology. Endowed chairs and endowed professorships are among the most prestigious positions in the university and health system and are reserved for the most distinguished scholars and leaders. This position joins the ranks of more than 400 professorship holders with faculty appointments within Johns Hopkins Medicine.

JHACH is a 259-bed teaching hospital, ranked as a U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital (2023-2024) in 7 pediatric specialties including Diabetes and Endocrinology. We are also ranked as the #1 Children’s Hospital in Florida. JHACH is the only US hospital outside the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. location that is part of the Johns Hopkins Medicine system.

The Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Program at JHACH provides the full spectrum of evaluation and treatment services for children, teens, and young adults with a wide variety of pediatric endocrinological problems. Our team consists of physicians, nurses, dietitians, and social workers who work closely with patients and caregivers at all stages of childhood, teen, and young adult years to create an individualized treatment plan. We provide services for both inpatients and outpatients and support them from initial diagnosis to the transition to adult care.

This position provides research leadership and direction within the endocrinology and diabetes program. The chair will be a board-certified pediatrician/pediatric endocrinologist with a record of program leadership and academic scholarship. JHACH offers a dynamic academic environment on an expanding clinical campus in St. Petersburg. Qualified candidates are eligible for an academic appointment at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Lead clinical, research, advocacy, and academic initiatives in diabetes.
• Develop and execute a high-impact research agenda.
• Foster collaborations across Johns Hopkins University (JHU), JHACH and the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) as well as outreach to the broader community.
• Participate and execute teaching aligned with the academic mission.
• Mentor junior faculty on research or academic interests.
• Collaborate with the JHACH Medical Director of Pediatric Endocrinology on clinical faculty mentorship, new program development and expansion within the field of endocrinology.
• Build and strengthen relationships with donors.
• Assist the JHACH Medical Director of Pediatric Endocrinology with recruitment and retention.
• Serve on Department of Medicine working committees including but not limited to Department of Medicine Research Council.
• Clinical time in endocrinology/diabetes.

The successful candidate will also:

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of JHU School of Medicine/Johns Hopkins Medicine, and the Department of Medicine at JHACH.
• Foster a culture of innovation and commitment to academic growth, as well as excellence, inclusiveness, and positivity in the research environment.
• Provide effective leadership and mentorship to core faculty and trainees.
• Demonstrate clinical excellence in pediatric endocrinology and diabetes.
• Actively and regularly participate in leadership and research meetings as appropriate.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills and professionalism.

Qualifications:

• MD required, additional PhD or Master’s degree is desirable.
• Demonstrated experience in clinical research and/or translational biology with a strong track record of research productivity with respect to publications and funding.
• Strong interest/focus in Type 1 Diabetes research.
• The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ leadership experience within a teaching children’s hospital.
