The program manager will implement APHA’s climate change activities. This will include monitoring budgets, grant management, and program development and execution. Serve as the primary liaison to key APHA member units, as well as to various partner organizations. Work closely with colleagues in communications, government relations and public affairs to advance the APHA legislative climate change agenda; acts as point person for organization-wide projects and initiatives; and conducts research and analysis to develop products and materials as needed. The program manager will work closely with the Deputy Director of the Center for Climate, Health and Equity to plan and implement programmatic activities and track all work and outcomes. Assist the Deputy Director with oversight of grant operational plans and budgets, coordinating and communicating with funders, submitting required reports, overseeing evaluation processes, and entering and managing related consultant and sub-grant contracts. Develop and disseminate materials and products related to climate change, health and equity. Maintain and build strong partnerships and coalitions (including with organizations, environmental justice advocates, funders, program officers, federal agencies, and other stakeholders). Serve as liaison to key APHA member units, including the Environment Section, International Health Section, and Inter-Section Council Climate Change Group. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor. The position is grant funded and guaranteed for one year with a likely extension based on funding and performance.
Master’s degree and 2+ years of related work experience; or 4+ years of related work experience. Working knowledge of climate change, health equity and/or environmental justice. Project management experience (grant management experience also a plus). Knowledge and familiarity with principles of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. Compassionate, inclusive communications skills that demonstrate self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Versatile writing ability. Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Strong planning, organization and time management skills. Commitment to working collaboratively and respectfully with team and partners. Travel to the Annual Meeting is required with other occasional travel possible.

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations. Hybrid work environment.
Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Monday - Friday (daytime). Number of openings: 1.
