Environmental Health & Safety Programs Administrator
Salary Range: $6,150.00 - $12,991.67 (budgeted salary will not exceed $11,279.17) Salary is commensurate with experience.
Under general direction, work independently developing and implementing health and safety programs targeted to the academic/research enterprises within the Schools of Health. This position may represent the UCDH Health and Safety Officer, as assigned. Required to execute a wide variety of workplace and laboratory safety programs that reduce and eliminate environmental risk or potential harm to our students, staff, patients, or visitors. Collaborate with partners in safety, including the School of Medicine Safety Officer and Campus Safety Services, to ensure that UCDH is in full compliance with all regulating and accrediting agencies.
Provide support, maintain programs, and resolve issues on behalf of EH&S Leadership when requested. Assist with supporting a complex department with multiple functional disciplines/occupations that has a critical impact upon the organization as a whole. Has responsibility for formulating or administering policies and programs, and functions with autonomy.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive previous experience in environmental health & safety with working knowledge of biosafety, industrial hygiene, chemical hazardous waste management, infection control, and associated regulatory requirements.
- Years of educational experience may be substituted for years of previous work experience (year for year).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Public Health, or similar relevant fields and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Recent experience working with injury prevention and occupational safety (industrial hygiene), research laboratory safety, and hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene, environmental health, and infection control practices.
- In-depth knowledge of how research and education operations operate safely and in compliance with all laws, regulations, accreditation standards, university policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of workplace ergonomics, proper use of personal protective equipment, and safe practices related to an airborne and bloodborne pathogen, chemical, and non-ionizing radiation exposures.
- Experience with various software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access; databases, e-mail systems, internet, etc.
- Advanced level verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- American Board of Industrial Hygiene Professional certification (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Professional Engineer
- Advanced degree in Health and Safety, and progressive health and safety responsibilities.
- Safety-related experience working in an academic or healthcare setting.
Special Requirements
- Must possess a CA driver’s license within 3 months of hiring and participate in the DMV Pull Notice.Must be able to work special work schedules, including variable schedules on evening and night shifts.
- Must be able to work occasional overtime.
- Must be able to wear appropriate safety equipment.
- Must participate in the medical monitoring program.
- This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
